Hiking From Kite Lake Trail Head

Post by Minnesota Gold1 »

Has anyone recently hiked from the Kite Lake trailhead? If so, was the parking open on the weekend? If the road was closed were you still able to park your car on the road and then hike up to the trail head? Thanks for any help

We did it on a Wednesday and the main parking lot was closed, but plenty of parking on the road- you just have to snake further down and hug the shoulder. Can't say what a weekend would be like, this is a trail I would avoid unless it was a weekday, myself.

Did Buckskin from the Kite Lake TH on Sunday 8/16. Parking was fine - just bring $8 cash for a permit if you're parking anywhere close to the TH. Not sure when they revamped the parking area, but we were surprised to not see many cars on the side of the road... because the parking lot holds 80+ spots right now. There's also a lower overflow lot than holds a handful of spots, too.

How is the road condition? Can a regular sedan vehicle make it?

Yes, pretty smooth going. My friend commented on how much smoother it was than years before.

yes.

I was up there two weeks ago. The work they have done on the road makes it easy for everyone.
