Simon was raised in Mancos CO and ran track and cross country for the Mancos high school.
I met him in 2013 at the first Telluride Mountain Run put on by Ricky Denesik of Hardrock race fame.
Simon was 13 but he still had a high place finish racing with Rick Trujillo ( who started the Imogene Pass Race).
I remember thinking Trujillo ran like a moose and Simon like a gazelle.

Re: Mt. Rainier Speed Record
I was up on Rainier the same day, conditions were perfect for breaking records. He cruised past us around 13k in trail runners and microspikes
the title of the article is a bit misleading, 3:43 was his round trip time, he climbed the 9k from Paradise to the Summit in 2:34. Craziness!

Wow, and a ~1 hour descent...I remember postholing a ton coming down. Maybe a few long glissades?
Re: Mt. Rainier Speed Record
I was on Rainier a couple of days later and ran into a different record holder. I think he said he's up to 638 summits. Strangely, that was his first time on the Fuhrer Finger route that we were on. https://www.rmiguides.com/rmi-knowledge ... -climbing/

That's really incredible. I climbed with Brent in 2012, he's a great guy.gb wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2026 2:02 pm I was on Rainier a couple of days later and ran into a different record holder.
