Ranked 13ers by rating

Post by nilaoire »

Hi All,
I probably should know the answer, but I don't, I have never had to factor it in before....what? A friend wants to do 13ers, but not class 3 and above. Is this information easily available somewhere? I would prefer not to have to search peak by peak. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I will look again. I may be going blind. I saw, have seen the 13ers by location, rank, but missed any list that had Yosemite rating.

Listsofjohn full-screen map has an option to color the peaks by rating, which is useful for seeing which ones are easier/harder within a particular area.

Roach's Colorado 13ers has this information for the "high 13ers" (13800' and above).

Thanks Sean. I will admit while I have his 13er book I haven't looked at it in years, particularly as so much great Beta us available on 14ers.com.

you can also create a list of 13ers (within LOJ) and export to a spreadsheet, which you can then sort by rating and then by whatever other criteria you want to.

I found climb13ers.com to be very useful when looking for peaks.

I can pick a class of peak, ex class 1, and the filter down further. If I select passenger car accessible their website says there are 21 class 1 13ers in the state which a passenger car can access. One can also filter by range and about how long the hike will take.

The caveat that I would give you when using that website is some of this information is very out of date. They did their climbing 20-10 years ago and because 13ers see so little traffic you can have a route that has significant blow down, a rock slide, a road that has been closed by the forest service or new private property issues that have cropped up. Definitely do your research when picking a mountain and look at several different websites and also use overlays like caltopo to look at land restrictions and water access and steepness of slope.

On Lists of John: https://listsofjohn.com/PeakStats/selec ... &S=CO&R=13 (to get to this page for any state and any elevation band, from the home page -> Lists by State (bottom of left side, select different state if needed) -> Peaks by Elevation Range -> Colorado 13ers -> under "Colorado 13ers - View List" click the dropdown (this is the second dropdown overall) and select YDS Class -> click Get the 13ers List. Note you can also simply modify the URL parameters to change the displayed data.)
On climb13ers.com: https://www.climb13ers.com/colorado-13ers/difficulties (home page -> mouseover Peaks -> click 13ers grouped by difficulty. Note this page is less granular about the 5th class peak difficulties.)
