Arapahoe traverse conditions

Post by Jschramm87 »

Anyone been up lately? Looking for a quick scrambling fix after work this week.

I heard second-hand that it is "summer conditions," but looked like some snow in pics--perhaps avoidable.

Traverse was pretty dry up to the exit gulley. That was filled in with hard pack, and I got skunked on it. Microspikes weren’t enough for me to get a bite. Light weight crampons should work ok. An axe would not be out of place, as a biff on that snow would end up in a long slide. Also, snow might be softer as an after work walk. I was on the gulley about 7:30 AM.

Thanks a ton. I’m gonna wait on this one a couple weeks.
