Crestones conditions

Post by ruggedland »

Planning to hit E Crestone and traverse to Needle this coming weekend. Anyone knows what the conditions are like? Still some snow/ice left in the dark gullies?

Well hello old friends! I think the last time I got out in the hills with you two was on Crestone Peak in 2012 and it looks like this time I will miss you guys by a day. Have an awesome trip!

This isn’t from me (direct) but a friend of mine who went down there for both peaks on 6/13-14. He did not do the traverse so no info there. No snow or any consequence for the Needle or the Peak (Red Gully). He did use microspikes for peace of mind on both BHP climbs but didn’t feel they were completely necessary. Gentle glissade down. Take that second hand info for what it’s worth.

Thank you. We’ll bring spikes for sure but looks like anything more than that is unnecessary
