Two thoughts on the the "but for" lability.

1) saying "but for" is a great set up for a 5th grade joke

2) in Japan if you're involved in an accident, you are automatically assessed fault and some liability. Normally 10 percent minimum. If you're stopped at a light and someone rear ends you, you are at least 10 percent to blame because if you hadn't been there, the crash might not have happened.

Definitely at odds with the American mindset, but lines up with the Japanese collective mindset.

If i found it, id want anonymity also. Keep 100% of the treasure instead of paying tax on it. Also, so you wouldn't get robbed.

I hope Fenn releases the information on where it was though. Wouldnt it be hilarious if it was right off a 14er trail.

And I should have posted this  with the Yahoo! mention...as I'm sure they've looked deep into the mystery!
I think it's b.s. either way.

Fake that it was found?
Or fake that it existed?
It's plausible, but very hard to prove.

Found or Existed, take your pick.

What is plausible? That an old guy buried millions of dollars of gold and gems and invited the world to go look for it or that people would want to believe that he did?

Sorry, still living in the real world.

It is probably an empty chest with a note inside that reads: "the treasure is the journey and all the friends you made along the way."
Nobody climbs 14ers anymore, they’re too crowded.

My parents know Forest Fenn. While he never told them anything specifically about the treasure they believe he is kooky enough to have done something like that.
